Get a Huntsville Hospital Car Tag and Help Support Our Hospital!

Huntsville Hospital has applied for a specialty car tag, and we need your help. Once 1,000 plates are applied for, production will begin. $41.25 of the $50 specialty tag fee is a donation to Huntsville Hospital Foundation; the remaining $8.75 will go towards production of the tag. Funds raised from the specialty tag sales will be used to purchase equipment and fund programs at Huntsville Hospital and will benefit our programs and patients for many years to come.

To get your Huntsville Hospital car tag:

  1. Complete a “Commitment to Purchase” application at the Foundation office OR at your County License Department and bring with you the following information:

    1. Your vehicle’s make, model, year and VIN number
    2. Payment method for the $50 fee
  2. The License Department will issue your receipt and original “Commitment to Purchase” application.  If you applied at the Foundation, then we will process the paperwork for you and mail the receipts to you.
  3. Once 1,000 tags are sold, production begins!
  4. Simply pick up your pre-ordered HH specialty tag at the License Department during your renewal month* – and hit the road sporting Huntsville Hospital’s colors!

*If you’d like to get your tag early (i.e. prior to your tag renewal month), you may do so, BUT you will have to turn in your old car tag when you pick up your new tag and pay the $50 specialty tag fee again at the time of your regular tag renewal.

FAQ

What exactly is the new Huntsville Hospital car tag?
The specialty license tag will bear the Huntsville Hospital logo. Tags are sold as a fundraising opportunity for approved non-profit organizations. Our tags will only be produced and available once we get paid commitments from 1,000 people.

Where can I apply for the Huntsville Hospital car tag?
The Huntsville Hospital specialty car tag can be applied for at your county License Department (the "Commitment to Purchase" form cannot be found at satellite offices).

How will I know when 1,000 tags have been applied for and production has begun?
You can visit Huntsville Hospital Foundation's website, www.huntsvillehospital.org/foundation for car tag updates or call your county License Department to find out when the Huntsville Hospital car tags will be produced.

My renewal month is coming up soon. When can I pick up my tag?
The tags have not been made yet. Because this is a pre-order process, we must have 1,000 commitments before production begins. The faster we get 1,000 people signed-up, the sooner the tags will be produced. Production takes about 3 months after 1,000 pre-orders are completed. See below for information about picking up tags.

How does all this work within the timeframe of my regular tag renewal month?
We don’t yet know how long it will take to secure 1,000 commitments for the specialty tags. To order a specialty tag, you will complete the License Department's paperwork and pay the $50 (per car) fee.  Once we have commitments for 1,000 tags the State of Alabama will produce the Huntsville Hospital specialty tag and they will be shipped to Madison County.  It will take approximately 3 months for the tags to be produced and delivered to the License Department.

SCENARIO 1: Suppose your tag renewal month is July 2010, but that the specialty tags are not available until November 2010. Once available in November, you will have 2 pick-up options for your new specialty tag:

(1)     Wait until July 2011 to pick up your new tag that will be valid for 12 months through June of 2012. OR

(2)     You may go ahead and pick up your new tag as soon as it is available in November 2010; however you will have to pay the renewal fee of $50 again in JULY 2011. NOTE that if you choose this option, you will have to deliver your current (old) tag to the License Department and swap it out for the new specialty tag.

SCENARIO 2: Suppose the specialty tag is available in November 2010, and that your renewal month is February 2011. You may either:

(1)     Wait and pick up your tag in February 2011 – it will be valid for 12 months through February of 2012. OR

(2)    Get your tag as soon as it is available in November 2010; however you will have to pay the renewal fee of $50 again in FEBRUARY 2011. NOTE that if you choose this option, you will have to deliver your current (old) tag to the License Department and swap it out for the new specialty tag.

In other words, you can simply wait until your regular renewal month to pick up your tag – and it will be valid for a full 12 months. If you are eager to sport the new tag on your car, then you can certainly get it as soon as it is available – you’ll just have to pay the $50 tag renewal fee at the time of your regular renewal month.

Can I personalize my tag?
Yes, tags can be personalized up to 5 letters and/or numbers. You may do so by placing the order at the License Department. Your specialty tag with personalization will be mailed to your home, and you will be given a temporary tag to place in your car in the meantime. There is no additional fee for personalization.

Is the $50 a one time fee?
You will pay the $50 tag renewal each year

And I only pay $50 every year?
The $50 is ONLY the specialty tag fee. Standard fees for your particular vehicle (value-added tax based on year and make) to the State still apply, and are in addition to the specialty tag fee.

Why are we doing this? What’s in it for Huntsville Hospital?
$41.25 of the $50 specialty tag fee will be given to Huntsville Hospital Foundation; the remaining $8.75 goes toward production of the tag. Funds raised via the specialty tag sales will be used to purchase equipment and fund programs at Huntsville Hospital.  Tag sales can provide a significant and steady stream of revenue to the Foundation which can benefit our programs and patients for many years to come. Also, the tag is a great marketing tool for Huntsville Hospital!!!

I don’t live in Alabama (i.e. Ardmore, TN), can I sign up?
Non-Alabama state residents are NOT eligible for the specialty car tag.

Where do I find my VIN  number for the application form?
You can find it on your registration, your insurance card, or on the title of your car.

What if 1,000 orders are never reached, do I still get my $50 back?
We hope this doesn’t happen! But yes, you will be refunded the $50 fee.
