Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary Donates More Than $300K to Huntsville Hospital

Intracardiac Ultrasound technology is just one of the purchases made possible by the Auxliary. Dr. Warren Strickland is pictured with Cath Lab manager Patricia Bailey, RN (far left), and Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary officers Mable Brooks, Cheryl Curley, and Jean Glisson (not pictured: Charles Purple and Sherry Landers).

In a record-breaking gesture of generosity, the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $300,680 to Huntsville Hospital Foundation. These funds will benefit many departments throughout the hospital, and proceeds will provide for equipment, reference materials, and program support.  In addition, this year’s donation is the largest contribution made by the organization since it began supporting the Foundation.

The Foundation is extremely thankful for the hard work and support of the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary. The support of these generous volunteers makes it possible for Huntsville Hospital to continue its mission.

On Thursday, May 6, Tortora’s restaurant was a packed house with families and friends enjoying a night of “Pizza, Pasta and Preemies” in support of Huntsville Hospital’s tiniest patients! Not only did Tortora’s donate 100% of every dinner bill to benefit the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, but they also sold t-shirts and took donations throughout the evening. With more than 400 diners and more than 300 pizzas made, the event was a spectacular success raising $6,100 for the Melissa George Fund! Thank you to everyone who came out that night, and thank you especially to Tortora’s for this wonderful opportunity to support a great cause and enjoy some delicious Italian food …and for giving us an excuse to have that extra slice!

 Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville

Dorthoy Havens and Tom Baxter, Gala chairmen, are pictured with the club president, Joe Bergantz.

The Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville’s 2010 “Americans in Paris” Gala was a night to remember, not only for those who attended, but also for families across north Alabama with hearing-impaired children.

The Gala is the signature event for the Rotary Club. This year marked the tenth anniversary of the event. Guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, casino and special Parisian entertainment by the Huntsville Community Chorus.

The Rotarians presented Huntsville Hospital Foundation with a check for $20,000 at a recent luncheon. We send a big thank you to all the Rotarians who shared their time and talent to make this event a success and for their generous donation that is making a lasting impact in the community for pediatric audiology patients and their families.

Strike Out Breast Cancer!

On April 7, at the annual Hazel Green vs. Bob Jones “Strike Out Breast Cancer” game, the Lady Patriot’s Softball Field was a vision of pink as friends and family went to bat in support of Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund.

Prior to the game, students at both high schools and middle schools raised money selling paper softballs for $1. On game day, players in pink jerseys took the field in honor or memory of loved ones affected by breast cancer and presented pink Gerbera daisies to the game’s honorees. A raffle, featuring prizes from local restaurants and businesses, and “Pink Out” bake sale were a huge hit for the fans!

Liz Hurley, a survivor herself and founder of the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund, threw the first pitch. Also there to talk to the players and fans about breast cancer awareness was Sandy Cross, a breast health specialist from Huntsville Hospital.

Huntsville Hospital Foundation thanks all who came out to support the effort to “Strike Out Breast Cancer,” and for making this annual event a homerun!
